Each year, the REALTORS Care® Shelter Drive selects and fundraises for three shelter-related charities within the REBGV area.

Since the program began in 2009, Realtors have fundraised more than $460,000 for 23 charities (some more than once).

Here are the charities the Shelter Drive will support in 2023-24:

Dixon Transition Society, Burnaby

The Dixon Transition Society helps reduce the impact of domestic violence by providing a safe haven for women and children.

Dixon’s programs include three levels of transitional housing and family counselling.

They also offers comprehensive programs to sustain women’s success, meet the needs of children, and increase community awareness about violence against women.

We're fundraising to help support full-time and half-time counsellors for their family counselling program. The program provides free, professional counselling to adults and adolescents. This includes individual and group counselling sessions for children and youth aged 4-19 who have witnessed or experienced family violence.

Squamish Helping Hands Society

The Squamish Helping Hands Society aims to help end homelessness and hunger throughout its community.

They provide emergency shelter, supportive housing, food services, and supports to people at risk to improve their wellness and capacity for independence.

They offer  low-barrier, non-judgemental, trauma-informed services to adults coping with challenges including low income, mental illness, substance use, health issues, and other barriers.

We're fundraising to support their Homeless Community Outreach Program, which engages with people who are experiencing homelessness (including those who are unsheltered, underhoused or inappropriately housed) who may be disconnected from services and supports for various reasons.

Turning Point Recovery Society, North Shore

The Turning Point Recovery Society provides bed-based, outreach and community-based counselling programs for men, women, and trans-people over 19 who have been affected by their own or other’s substance use.

There are 73 residential beds in six communities including the North Shore, Richmond, Vancouver, and Squamish.

We're fundraising to help support a part-time Overdose Prevention Specialist at the North Shore location. The specialist will provide education, programming, and counselling support for individuals addicted to opioids seeking to improve their lives, and for those leaving treatment and are in need of on-going aftercare and support.
