REALTORS Care® Shelter Drive
The REALTORS Care® Shelter Drive was created to help raise funds for housing-related charities within our Board area.
Each year up to three such charities are selected, based on suggestions from REALTORS®, for the Shelter Drive to help support.
Charities for 2018-19
Cythera Transition House
Cythera provides shelter and support for women and children fleeing domestic violence. They have counselling available to help women, and specialised programs for children.
Fundraising for: a program to aid women who have experienced a myriad of abuses. Funds will help shorten waitlists so women in crisis receive immediate care.
Monarch Place assists women to attain safe, secure, long term housing stability. The program offers identification and provision of immediate needs, support in finding affordable housing, connections to supportive community resources when they relocate, and help in navigating any necessary legal or court processes.
Fundraising for: a contribution to a $50,000 contingency fund that'll ensure affordable rent for five families.
Richmond Society for Community Living
RSCL provides programs and services to infants with special needs, and to children and adults with developmental disabilities. They provide a continuum of care throughout these individuals’ lives. The programs include residential care for adults, care for infants and children, and life-skills training.
Fundraising for: help with the purchase of apartment units that allow adults with disabilities to live in stable, affordable housing.
The charities must be:
- based in the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver area
- housing-related, including shelters, transition houses, and affordable housing initiatives
- registered with the federal government
