BC landlords can raise rental apartment rents a maximum of 1.4 per cent as of January 2021 according to new rules set by the province.

This is in contrast to previous rules set in 2018 which allowed rent increases to be the rate of inflation plus an additional two per cent.

For manufactured-home park tenancies, the rate is 1.4 per cent, plus a proportional amount for the change in local government levies and regulated utility fees.

BC landlords can increase rent once per year and must provide tenants with three full months’ notice using the correct notice of rent increase form.
