The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) turns 100 this year! REBGV was founded as the Vancouver Real Estate Exchange on March 13, 1919.

REBGV has a history of pioneering initiatives that benefit real estate practitioners and the communities they serve across Metro Vancouver and the country.

For example, did you know the first Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) was created in Vancouver in 1950? REBGV was also the first to computerize the MLS®, marrying the system with IBM technology in 1964 to create new and different ways for REALTORS® to share information.

REBGV members have helped shape the way the business of real estate is conducted in BC. When the Real Estate Act passed in 1958, REBGV members had spent seven years helping to inform and shape this legislation designed to protect the public interest.

REBGV held their first Blanket Drive in 1994. That subsequently led to the formation of REBGV’s charitable arm, REALTORS Care®. This program was adopted by other boards in BC and ultimately by the Canadian Real Estate Association. In November, REBGV will celebrate the 25th annual REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive, which has helped approximately 345,000 residents in need across the Lower Mainland keep warm during the winter months.

There’s lots more to share. Look for more stories and photos from our history that detail changes within the profession and Metro Vancouver on this website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
