With the 2010 Olympics, we have experienced something that will remain with us forever. The Games was a time for the Lower Mainland and Canada to shine in the global spotlight.

Each of us had an opportunity to participate, whether it be wearing a pair of the outrageously popular red mittens, cheering on our favourite athletes, or volunteering in one of the many positions that make the Games happen.

Some of our members who volunteered look back on their experiences.

Hosting the world

Carol Wagner, Prudential Sussex Realty, was a volunteer host at Cypress Mountain for the duration of the Games. She welcomed people to the mountain, provided directions to venues, and answered many questions, including the often asked, ‘why are the port-a-potties only at the bottom of the hill and not on the sides?’

A highlight for Carol was making arrangements for Jennifer Heil’s family to go to the press box after her silver-medal win and they were not accredited to be there. The press box was in a secure area well away from the crowds, making it difficult to reach. Carol spoke with an RCMP officer, who then specially drove the Heil family in an RCMP armoured vehicle so they could be with Jennifer.
