With the 2010 Olympics, we have experienced something that will remain with us forever. The Games was a time for the Lower Mainland and Canada to shine in the global spotlight.

Each of us had an opportunity to participate, whether it be wearing a pair of the outrageously popular red mittens, cheering on our favourite athletes, or volunteering in one of the many positions that make the Games happen.

Some of our members who volunteered look back on their experiences.

Jumping for glory

Raking, packing and shoveling snow on a 37 degree slope was a dream come true for Jim Woolsey, Raymar Realty.

Along with his finely honed snow shoveling skills, Jim’s other duties involved hill decoration for the ski jump venue in Whistler. This included hanging vast quantities of banners, painting lines, and placing pine boughs on the ski jump to mark distances for the ski jumpers as they flew to their landing.

Jim’s crowning achievement was helping to create, for the first time ever at an Olympic ski jump venue, a set of Olympic rings that were embedded into the hill. Usually the rings are painted on the snow.
